Galeria do Rock (EN)

The Grandes Galerias (Great Arcades) Mall was designed by architect Alfredo Mathias and opened in 1963. In the late 1970s, rock record stores moved to the place, originating the nickname by which it is best known today (Rock Arcades). Today the arcade provides an avant-garde interaction atmosphere to various cultural groups, represented by 450 outlets and 20 thousand visitors every day.

– There are 450 commercial points in the location, where one can identify a wide range of styles and trends, of both public profile and services offered.

– It receives over 20 thousand visitors a day.

– It was the scenario of the soap “Tempos Modernos” [Modern Times], by Rede Globo TV Station, whose plot was about the possible expropriation and demolition of the gallery in order to build an intelligent building.
